SACNASP INVOLVEMENT WITH QCTO

The Quality Council for Trades and Occupations (QCTO) is a Quality Council established in 2010 in terms of the Skills Development Act Nr. 97 of 1998. Its role is to oversee the design, implementation, assessment and certification of occupational qualifications, including trades, on the Occupational Qualifications Sub-Framework (OQSF).

The QCTO is currently developing a new occupation for SA, in the Environmental Science space, viz. the Environmental Management Programme Practitioner (EMPrP), alternatively called the Environmental Impact & Restoration Practitioner. This proposed occupation falls in between the EAP and the ECO roles for projects, as the EMPrP is the key individual who will develop the EMPr in future, a role which is being fulfilled mostly by EAPs currently. The EMPrP will also be responsible to develop the EMPr for any major environmental incident, rehabilitation requirements, offset projects, inter alia. An EMPrP can be employed by all levels of government, industry, private practice, etc.

SACNASP is involved in this development with QCTO, and is represented by the chairperson of the Environmental Science Professional Advisory Committee. If you wish to be involved or provide your inputs, kindly contact SACNASP.

Registered Scientists who will participate will earn 1 CPD point.
