MEDIA RELEASE: TWAS-ROSSA YOUNG SCIENTISTS’ CONFERENCE 2016
The 2016 Regional Young Scientists’ Conference will be held in Nigeria this week.
The World Academy of Sciences Regional Office in sub-Saharan Africa (TWAS-ROSSA) has partnered with the Nigerian Academy of Science (NAS) and the Nigerian Young Academy (NYA) to host the 2016 Regional Young Scientists’ Conference (RYSC). The conference will be held in Nigeria, Ikeja Lagos at the Sheraton Hotel from 23-24 August 2016.
The 2016 RYSC presents an opportunity for policymakers, stakeholders, professionals, experts, scholars, academics and researchers to deliberate on the main theme Inclusive Growth and Sustainable Development in Africa within the Framework of the Agenda 2063. The objective of this conference is to disseminate the ideals of Agenda 2063 and to create a platform for relevant stakeholders (young professionals, academia, African development partners, etc.) to make their contributions towards an action plan aimed at setting practical road maps for the timely realisation of the agenda.
The sub-themes of the conference are: Building sustainable and resilient health systems; Multi-disciplinary collaboration/Cross-sector engagement in inclusive growth and sustainable development; Water and sanitation - water resources management; Sustainable developmental initiatives towards poverty alleviation; Sustainable agriculture and food security; Sustainable development with renewable energy; Africa’s contribution to global research and technology transfer; Promoting African technologies of global potentials; Industrialisation, infrastructure and inclusive growth and development; Mainstreaming women and youth as drivers of change and sustainable development; The role of the private sector in inclusive growth and sustainable development in Africa; Education in Africa: a springboard for social transformation; ICT and sustainable development; Migration and the challenge of social cohesion; and Financial institutions in Africa and the realisation of inclusive growth and sustainable development.
Since March 2015, TWAS-ROSSA has been hosted by the Academy of Science of South Africa (ASSAf). It is one of the five regional offices of The World Academy of Sciences (TWAS) and has recently launched its website: www.twas-rossa.org.za.
The regional office is a non-profit organisation that is open for collaboration. A donation to TWAS-ROSSA is welcome to directly support the advancement of science, engineering and technology in sub-Saharan Africa.
